Summer "To-Do List" Projects

I L-O-V-E being off work during the summer. I have the ability to start and finish so many projects that I long to do on the weekends, but usually lack the energy and/or time. So, here's a peek at some of the projects I have finished this summer. 

PROJECT #1 - Altered Spice Carousel 

I picked up this 1970's vintage spice rack at a flea market a few years ago and it has been patiently waiting to be altered. I painted it with a coat of turquoise acrylic paint. I only used one coat, because I liked the wood showing through in some places. I created the spice labels using some chalkboard scrapbooking paper and an EK Success punch. I wrote on the spice labels using a chalk pen. 

PROJECT #2 - Scatter Frames 

These frames all came from a flea market and cost only $1 each. I painted them all black and roughed them up with a bit of sandpaper. They are each hung with a tiny nail and have Command poster sticky strips on the back to keep them level.  I love a cheap and cheerful project!

PROJECT #3 - "Uncentered" Towel Bar Dilemma

I've never been a fan of how the builder didn't center the towel bar over our garden tub, so I decided to make it look like it was put there "on purpose." I bought this vinyl saying at Hobby Lobby and scored the scone for $3 at a flea market because the glass votives were missing. No problem there, I just added 2 candlesticks I had around the house. 

PROJECT #4 - Update Master Bedroom Decor 

I painted and distressed this frame and then added a piece of burlap that has been painted using a stencil. 

Random vintage findings from flea markets to accent the dresser. 

I love this lantern I found at a flea market. I added a bird's nest inside for a touch of whimsy! 

PROJECT #5 - Kitchen Decor Change-Up 

I have decided to change my kitchen colors after finding this adorable buffet. The kitchen redo is still going on, but I did hang these plates on the wall. (Total project cost = $10) I used plates from my china cabinet, so all I had to buy were the adhesive plate hangers from Hobby Lobby. New curtains, placemats, and recovered chair pictures coming soon!!! 

PROJECT #6 - Utility Room 

I painted this old frame and distressed it a touch and added some cup hooks to hold keys from.

This frame was painted red and then I sprayed a piece of wood with chalkboard spray paint. Perfect place to add all those projects to hubby's "Honey-Do" list. :)

I still have 3 more projects that I haven't quite finished for the utility room, but will be posting pics of those soon as well. 

PROJECT #7 - Dining Room 

I bought this canvas and it started a complete overhaul of the dining room.  I grabbed a bunch of decorative twigs and bound them with a piece of burlap to accent the corner of the canvas. I also had the table painted and distressed to match the other furniture pieces in the room. Melinda at Figgy Pudding did an amazing job!! 

I picked up this burlap runner at a local flea market, isn't it so adorable? 

4 more weeks left of vacation and I still have almost 25 things left on the master "To-Do" list, better get busy. I will post more project pictures soon. Hope everyone's weekend is filled with Love & Whimsy! HUGS :)

Patriotic Nesting Boxes

Hi everyone, hope you guys are having a fantastic Friday!  It's Andrea, from the LSG Design Team, with a Fantastic Designer Friday project.  The 4th of July is quickly approaching and I adore decorating for this fun summer holiday.  I am the self-proclaimed "Nesting Box Queen," so I had to create a set that displayed my love for the USA.  

The nesting boxes start out looking like this, just basic paper mache.  I don't prime or paint the boxes before spraying them with LSG sprays, as I like the kraft color to peek through here and there.

I started by painting my boxes with LSG Starburst Sprays.  I love how versatile LSG sprays are.  You can spray with them or take off the lid and dip in a paintbrush and paint with them.  I chose to paint my boxes.

This box was painted using "Afternoon Delight Denim."  I paint the box and then rub it in with a paper towel (the paper mache soaks up the color better this way).

I painted the middle box using "Rizzo's Rowdy Red" (a new Flat Fabio set being released July 15th).

The top box was painted with a coat of white acrylic paint and then sprayed with Scintillating Silver.

I love to add a touch of stamping to one of my boxes, so I decided to use some LSG Two-Toned Embossing Powder to really give my stamping a special touch.  I started out by gathering varying sized star stamps from several stamps sets.  I like to rub my nesting box with my embossing buddy before stamping my image with VersaMark ink.  I then sprinkled on some "Midnight Bronze Obsidian Embossing Powder" and set with my heat gun.

And here's how it turned out...

I added some trim and a few more embellishments to accent the boxes.

Tropical Travelogue Altered Frame

Hi guys!  I have a tropically project to share with you today for I Am Roses.  My parents went to Maui a few weeks ago and I loved this picture of my Mom staring out at the ocean, so I decided to create an altered frame for her.  I used the "Tropical Travelogue" collection by Graphic 45, so beachy and fun!

I painted the frame with a coat of gesso and "Calypso Blue" acrylic paint by Americana and then sprayed it with LSG Buccaneer Bay Blue Moon Shadow Mist and Desert Moon Cactus Gold Glitz Spritz.  I ♥ how it turned out.

I fussy-cut these images out of the paper collection, this collection is gorgeous!  I sprayed the 2" Rose with LSG Red Hot Poker Orange and added some Green Grape Leaves (sprayed with LSG Gator Gumbo Olive).

I added a bit of the patterned DP at the bottom of the frame along with some trims from Karlas001.

Altered Paper Mache Initial

Hi everyone!  I have a project to share with you today for I Am Roses.  

I painted this paper mache letter with "Spa Blue" acrylic paint and then sprayed it with 

LSG "Opal Sea Oats" Starburst Spray.  I used some gorgeous IAR flowers on today's project, the links are listed below.  I am in ♥ with the "Antique Paperie" Collection by Colorbok.  It's soft and subtle and perfect for spring!

"Charming, Adorable and Ever So Sweet" Altered Wood Frame

Hi guys!  I have another project to share with you for Karlas001.  I altered this wood frame that I picked up at Hobby Lobby.  It turned out so cute, I just ♥ it!

It started out as a 5x7 wood frame that I painted with a coat of gesso and then some khaki acrylic paint by Americana.  I sprayed the frame with LSG "Opal Sea Oats" Starburst Spray, such gorgeous shimmer!

I used the"Lost & Found: Union Square" 6x6 Paper Pad by My Mind's Eye, so sweet and vintage looking.  I fussy-cut out some adorable embellishments from the paper collection and distressed and inked them up with TH Walnut Stain.  I stamped the chandeliers using my Versamark Stamp Pad and then embossed it with LSG "Midnight Pewter Obsidian" Moon Glow Two-Toned Embossing Powder.  The stamps are also from the "Lost & Found: Union Square" collection by MME.  Along the bottom, I layered some gorgeous trims from Karlas001. I used the Loopy Black Trim and some of the 6mm Black Pearl Trim.

I ♥ how this cluster came out.  I used some I Am Roses flowers and leaves and stuck a Beige Pearl Spray behind.  I also used some more of the 6mm Black Pearl Trim and created 2 loops and tucked them behind the rose.

Vintage Valentine Treat Bag

Hi guys!  I have a project today that I created as part of the Queen of My Craftroom Design Team Challenge.  Our challenge for this week was to create a Valentine's Day Treat Project.

Here's what I created...

 I used some of these adorable Vintage Newspaper Kraft Paper Bags that I picked up a few months ago from an Etsy store.  

I ♥ this paper collection by K&Company.  It's so cute and vintage looking.

I cut out the tag using the Baroque TH Alterations Die with my BigShot and some of the DP.  The Valentine cutout is from the paper collection also.

I used some of my favorite seam binding and sprayed it with Poinsettia Red Gold Starburst Spray by LSG...♥♥♥ this stuff!  I attached the tag to the bag with a tiny clothespin that I had in my stash.  I also added a touch of bling in the corner with some Red Sparkles by CTMH.  I hot glued some vintage creme lace to the edge of the bag.

Valentine Treat Bags

Hi everyone!  I have a really cute project to share with you today for I Am Roses.  I created some adorable altered glassine treat bags for Valentine's Day.  These were so fun to make and I know the recipients are going to love these treat bags filled with candy! Hehe :)  I used the Tags & Note Card Die Cuts from the "Jubilee" Collection by K & Company....super adorable collection.  It's my new fav!

Announcement: Lindy's Stamp Gang Design Team

I am so excited to share some wonderful news with you today....Lindy's Stamp Gang has asked me to join their Design Team!!!  When Tracey contacted me, I was in absolute disbelief.  I ♥ LSG and cannot create a project without using their products.  I am elated, over the moon, super excited...I think you get the picture! Hehe :)

Here are a few projects I created for LSG...

A card for my Valentine

This card measures 5.5" x 5.5".  The base of the card is made of kraft cardstock and layered with some designer paper.  

I altered up a glassine bag to hold the tags I created.  I sprayed the bag with Cotton Candy Pink Starburst Spray.  I then used the Midnight Pewter Obsidian Embossing Powder to emboss the sentiment on the bag.  

The flowers also have a gorgeous shimmer.  The large pink rose was sprayed with Pretty in Pink Pink Starburst Spray.  The pale pink rose and creme cherry blossom were sprayed with Desert Moon Cactus Gold Glitz Spritz.

The second project I created was a Valentine Canvas Mini-Album.  This canvas mini started out a neutral color.  I painted the outer canvas cover with my Dark Chocolate Truffle Color Shot.

The handmade envelope was sprayed with Desert Moon Sunset Pink Glitz Spritz.

I love how the Cotton Candy Pink shimmers on this canvas page.  The mulberry flower was sprayed with Azure Sea Asters and the hand dyed seam binding was created using Cotton Candy Pink.

The mini roses were sprayed with Desert Moon Sunset Pink Glitz Spritz.

This adorable canvas page was sprayed with Azure Sea Asters and the flower was created using some loose mulberry petals sprayed with Cranberry Mist Burgundy and the light pink flowers were sprayed with Desert Moon Sunset Pink Glitz Spritz.

I love these Valentine "Snow Globes."  This is such a versatile project.  You can alter it for any holiday/occasion.  I used smooth sided Mason jars and altered them up!  I took strips of white cardstock that I sprayed with Creme Brulee Cream, Poinsettia Red Gold, Cotton Candy Pink, Hottie Patottie Hot Pink, and Pretty in Pink Pink and then punched out each heart to create the confetti in each jar.

The lid of this jar was painted with Berry Red acrylic paint that I mixed a bit of Alpine Ice Rose Magicals into.  The Magicals just give it the perfect shimmer.  The sentiment was stamped onto a piece of white cardstock that had been sprayed with Cotton Candy Pink Starburst Spray.  I hand-dyed some white seam binding with Hottie Patottie Hot Pink and Poinsettia Red Gold and tied it in a bow.



I added a glitter Styrofoam heart on a bed of lace and showered it with some more of my handmade confetti.

The lid of this jar was painted Warm White and then sprayed with Scintillating Silver Glitz Spritz.  I also sprayed the crocheted flower center with Scintillating Silver Glitz Spritz and added a bit more handmade confetti.

My final project is a handmade pennant banner.

I cut the pennant banner base out of brown cardstock and sprayed it with Cotton Candy Pink Starburst Spray.  I layered on some designer paper.  The flowers were sprayed with Cotton Candy Pink Starburst Spray as well.  I cut the bird cage out sprayed it with Scintillating Silver Glitz Spritz.  The birds were sprayed with Dark Chocolate Truffle and then Scintillating Silver Glitz Spritz.
 

I painted the grunge board letters using the Dark Chocolate Truffle Starburst Color Shot and then sprayed them with Scintillating Silver Glitz Spritz.


I tied the banner together with white seam binding and added some resin flowers at the base of each pennant.  Click HERE to watch a video on how I created this pennant banner.
